The Struggles of Being Underemployed
I graduated with a master’s degree, but after not being able to land a job in my field of study, I resorted to working at a restaurant to support myself.

I graduated with a master’s degree, but after not being able to land a job in my field of study, I resorted to working at a restaurant to support myself.
Five years ago, God helped me secure a new job within three weeks of being told of my redeployment.
By God’s grace, I’m still in that same job today. But the transition to the new job wasn’t easy.
As a natural optimist, I typically assume everything will work out fine. Except, sometimes it doesn’t.
For some of us, our current job represents a gateway to a meaningful career. For others, it may be the very means to survival.
Whatever you may feel about your job now, know that God offers Himself to you. You need not go into it alone.
Do you think it’s easier to share Christ to someone in your own family or to a stranger?
I’ve encountered many Christians who find it difficult to talk to their family and relatives about Jesus; some would say that it feels easier to hand out gospel tracts to strangers.
Have you ever felt like you are rattling off a list of wants to a genie while talking to God? Most of my prayer life felt that way.
I was only 23 when I landed my dream job, working for a major commercial radio newsroom in Sydney. I’d only been in the job for a short time before I began to discover how difficult this might be as a Christian.

Ambition.
It’s a word that can cause great angst amongst Christians. And for good reason. We often associate it with a “win at all costs”, “stab your competition in the back” mentality, especially when it comes to the workplace.
YMI (which stands for Why Am I?), is a platform for Christian young people all over the world to ask questions about life and discover their true purpose. We are a community with different talents but the same desire to make sense of God’s life-changing word in our everyday lives.
YMI is a part of Our Daily Bread Ministries.
