I Entered a New Year in Tears, But God Held Me Fast
At the beginning of last year, I was facing anxiety on multiple fronts. While others were looking forward to the coming year with hope, I was starting mine with dread.

At the beginning of last year, I was facing anxiety on multiple fronts. While others were looking forward to the coming year with hope, I was starting mine with dread.
Recently, my friend shared that he doubted if he would still be a Christian if it weren’t for the friends who were there for him in 2018.
That was the year he had lost a very dear cousin to sickness. And then, barely two months later, the rest of his cousin’s family members died in a tragic road accident.
My friend was devastated, and struggled to understand why God allowed for it to happen.
We were both Christians who loved God, loved each other, and enjoyed serving in various ministries together. Everything seemed right on the surface. Yet, our relationship deeply troubled me. It felt like we were short-changing ourselves most of the time.
Still stuck on his sentiment, I found myself ruminating over his words. I wanted to voice my thoughts and share my change of heart. Yet, despite praying and practicing how I’d start the conversation, I was tongue-tied every time it came to initiating the actual discussion.
In the meantime, I was growing distant and cold towards my husband.
YMI (which stands for Why Am I?), is a platform for Christian young people all over the world to ask questions about life and discover their true purpose. We are a community with different talents but the same desire to make sense of God’s life-changing word in our everyday lives.
YMI is a part of Our Daily Bread Ministries.
