When I Was Betrayed by a Fellow Christian

/
Some time ago, there was a situation that made me extremely angry, to the point that I raised my voice and slammed my hands on the table. At that time, all sorts of emotions were raging in me: anger, disappointment, sadness, and disbelief at what this particular person had done.

When Christianity Cost Me My Friendship

/
Back when we were in secondary school, I had invited Ava, my best friend of nine years, to church. Ava accepted Christ into her life and began attending weekly cell group meetings and services on a regular basis. I was elated that my dear friend had come to experience God’s love, and thrilled at the prospect of spurring each other towards Christlikeness. However, things ended as quickly as it had begun. After a few months, Ava told me that she no longer wished to attend church gatherings. My heart sank when she admitted that she had only done so because she did not want to disappoint me and my cell group with her constant refusals.

When I Argued with My Husband About Money

/
In February, my husband had a seizure due to stress. He had not been coping well with all the changes at work and ended up leaving his job in March. Since then, he has been searching for a job, but with the pandemic, the job market has been bleak. And so, I thought we would need to be more prudent with our expenses while we live on my income. But he was not willing to compromise on a significant expense—to let go of the helper who had joined us for just a couple of months. It frustrated me that he refused to listen to my explanation and proposals.

It marked the start of a downward spiral in my relationship with my father, two years of what my father called the “dark night of his soul”.

What started out as an innocent question ended up setting off explosive words between us, revealing our communication issues as a couple. As my husband started listing all of his complaints about me, I became increasingly frustrated, angry even, at his self-justification.

We Need to Talk About Cancel Culture

/
So-called “cancel culture” has been growing among millennials and Gen-Z, especially on social media—and it’s a trend that worries me. Here’s why: Rather than engage in dialogue about differences of opinion, cancel culture cuts all relationship and bans any further communication.

When I Gave My Husband the Cold Shoulder

/
Still stuck on his sentiment, I found myself ruminating over his words. I wanted to voice my thoughts and share my change of heart. Yet, despite praying and practicing how I’d start the conversation, I was tongue-tied every time it came to initiating the actual discussion. In the meantime, I was growing distant and cold towards my husband.

When My Good Deeds Backfired

/
It had been some time since I had a meal with an elderly friend of mine, so I was looking forward to catch up with her. But what I hoped to be a fun catch-up quickly turned into an awkward one when my good intentions backfired.

Confronting Conflict the Healthy Way

/
Imagine a life devoid of conflict, disagreements, and hurts. And even if any one of those arose, we can happily shake on it, and agree to disagree. How happy and enjoyable our lives will be!  Unfortunately, because we’re all sinful beings and we live in a broken world, conflicts do and will arise in our everyday lives.
