Living a self-controlled and consecrated life that’s pleasing to God is no small thing. It can even be scary, when there’s the risk of being mocked by others.

Try as we might, we cannot do this by ourselves.

Which is why it’s important to know: He who called us to this life isn’t asking us to “shape up and start walking” with a scowl on His face, but to “come closer, and lean in”. Where we’re lacking, He will supply. When we’re afraid, He will be our shelter.
