God Speaks Chinese
“I want to follow Jesus,” said my new Chinese friend. His wife nodded in agreement. At the end of a conference, I had felt prompted to share more about Jesus with this couple. After I had invited them to believe in Him, to my joy they had accepted. I encouraged them to pray in Chinese, assuring them God could understand their heart language. With tears in my eyes, I witnessed the couple talking with their Creator for the first time.
It was interesting that as a Romanian I was given the opportunity to share the gospel in English with two Chinese people. It reminded me of the vision of the author of Psalm 67, who exclaimed, “May your ways be known throughout the earth, your saving power among people everywhere. May the nations praise you, O God. Yes, may all the nations praise you. Let the whole world sing for joy, because . . . [you] guide the people of the whole world” (Psalm 67:2-4).
Although human sin has devastated this world, God has worked to restore all peoples to Himself by creating through Abraham the nation of Israel—a nation that belonged to and represented Him. God told Abraham that his descendants would become a great nation and have an impact far beyond his lifetime, promising, “You will be a blessing to others. . . . All the families on earth will be blessed through you” (Genesis 12:2-3).
Eventually, Jesus, a descendant of Abraham, was the One through whom God fulfilled these promises, bringing salvation to all who believe. If we believe in Him, we too are spiritual children of Abraham, “and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to [us]” (Galatians 3:29). As the psalmist affirmed, people all over the world can know God once more (Psalm 67:7)—through Jesus.
Reflect
If, as a believer in Jesus, you’re part of Abraham’s spiritual family, then you too are blessed to be a blessing. Is there someone you can touch with God’s love this week?
