Typography: Romans 8:14

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba. Father.” (Romans 8:15-16)

Have we become slaves to the world around us–letting our culture, peers, or our fear of missing out dictate how we live, what decisions we make, and even what we should eat? Paul tells us that when we become children of God, we’ve been freed from following the desires of our flesh. Instead, we have as our guide the gentle Holy Spirit, who leads us not in fear, but reminds us daily who we are in Christ, and transforms our appetites and desires, so that we can live in response to the love that God has poured out into our hearts.

Father, each time fear rises in my heart, remind me that I’ve been freed to live as Your child. Help me respond to the gentle leading of Your Holy Spirit, and to wholly trust Your heart and plans for my life.
