The Corner of Indecision

Read: Psalm 119:97-105
Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path (v.105).

Missionary Marti Ensign once brought some pastors to the US from the country where she was serving. The pastors wanted to do some shopping, but Marti was concerned that they might get lost. So she gave them her phone number. In less than an hour, one of the pastors called and said, “I’m lost.” “Find out the names of the two streets at the corner,” Marti said, “and come back and tell me, and I will come and get you.” In a few minutes, he returned to the phone and reported, “I am at the corner of ‘Walk’ and ‘Don’t Walk.'”

As we seek God’s will, we may find ourselves standing at our own corner of indecision. We want God’s direction. We want Him to reveal His views on issues that are not specifically addressed in His moral will: Where should I live? Where should I go to school? What should be my career? Whom should I marry?

One of the ways God often reveals His will is through His Word (vv.104-105). God’s Word not only provides us with His moral commands, but it also sheds light on issues that are not specifically addressed in the Bible.

Another way God communicates His wisdom and plans for us is through the godly counsel of family members, pastors, or other spiritual leaders (Proverbs 4:1; Jeremiah 3:15). A third way is through our prayers to God-pleas for guidance during difficult and confusing situations (James 1:5). A fourth way God reveals His will to us is through our passions and desires, as we delight in Him (Psalm 37:4).

Let’s continue to ask God for direction in our lives. For He loves us and desires to give us good gifts (Jeremiah 31:10-12; Matthew 7:7-11), He knows all things (Psalm 139), and He will answer our prayers!
