The point of “numbering our days” isn’t just remembering life is short so we should maximise our time.

What led Moses to utter these words was when he recognised the sobering reality of God’s judgment. Our lives are short and filled with trouble because of God’s anger towards sin.

But God does not leave us on a hopeless note. As Moses concluded, we can ask the Lord to teach us how to count our days—to live in awareness of Him— that we may fear and honour Him, and steer our focus and energies towards what matters to Him.
