ODJ: unstoppable

READ: Exodus 1:1-22 

God was good to the midwives, and the Israelites continued to multiply, growing more and more powerful (v.20).

In a video on YouTube, the scientists at Minute Physics attempt to answer the question: “What would happen if an immovable object met an unstoppable force?” Their answer? “If two infinitely massive, unacceleratable objects were moving towards each other and collided . . . since by definition it’s not possible for the velocity of either of them to change, the only possibility is that they pass right through each other with no effect on each other at all.” Huh?

The Egyptians once met an unstoppable force. Although they had tried to prevent the Israelites from flourishing and had enslaved them under “brutal slave drivers”, they “multiplied and spread” (Exodus 1:11-12). And although Pharaoh and his cronies were “ruthless in all their demands” (v.14), the Israelites kept right on reproducing!

Pharaoh then ordered the Hebrew midwives to kill all the male Israelite babies at birth. But because the midwives “feared God”, the boy babies lived and the nation grew (v.17). Egypt was dealing with more than just a resilient people; they were up against an all-powerful God.

Today, it may feel at times that the kingdom of God is facing too many challenges and is losing ground. But Jesus assured us that the kingdom is pressing on. He said it’s like a mustard seed that becomes “the largest of garden plants” (Matthew 13:32). He also said the kingdom is yeast that “permeated every part of the dough” (v.33).

The kingdom? It’s unstoppable.

God is unstoppable and so is His kingdom!
