Read: Proverbs 4:25
“Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.”
The temptation of staying stuck where we are and not wanting to move forward is real: it’s something many of us may do. I am no stranger to this. When I went through a breakup that devastated me a few months ago, I didn’t want to move on. In fact, I often found myself trying to go back in time—reading old emails, old text messages, and going through old pictures. I constantly wished that time would just stay still and not move forward. That way, I wouldn’t have to deal with the pain of heartbreak.
I am sure many of us have experienced this situation in some form or other. But when we choose to stay stuck where we are, we allow that situation to determine our present and our future. And that isn’t a good thing. In these moments, we may tell ourselves that God will heal us “someday”. But when we adopt such an attitude and outlook in life, we will remain where we are. We will make no progression and leave nothing behind but more pain and emptiness.
We need to remind ourselves that God is the only one who defines us—not our situation, struggles, or even our past. We were created to enjoy the blessing of freedom and to share the same joy with those around us. I know that taking a step forward is scary. It was scary for me too, but by stepping out in faith, I was able to engage myself in activities that involved Christian community. In the process, I grew and became a better person.
God is good and He has your back. You have God in your life, so you can make the decision today to step forward. Don’t remain stuck in a past that is no longer alive and meaningful.
