When I Remember Peter

Written By Chia Poh Fang, Singapore

“And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock
I will build my church, and the gates of hell
shall not prevail against it.”
—Matthew 16:18

God took a risk with me
When He called me to serve Him
Wholeheartedly, faithfully

He knows me perfectly
He knew that I would fail Him
Repeatedly, miserably

He knows that I am frail
He knows that my strength is weak
Terribly, thoroughly

Jesus said to Simon Peter,
“Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these? . . .
Feed my lambs.”
—John 21: 15

Yet, He won’t use any other
He chose to use me
Graciously, mightily

When I think of the work
He has enlisted me to do
With Him, through Him

I know I wouldn’t want to be in any other place
Than to worship Him by serving Him
Devotedly, diligently.

So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder . . .
shepherd the flock of God that is among you,
exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly,
as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly;
not domineering over those in your charge,
but being examples to the flock.
And when the chief Shepherd appears,
you will receive the unfading crown of glory. —1 Peter 5:1-4
