In 2009, Cristiano Ronaldo moved from Manchester United to Real Madrid for a whopping £80 million! Increasingly these days, it seems that clubs are willing to splash out the cash for prized players who could help them challenge for silverware, pull in the crowd, and pump up the gate receipts.
While mortals like us may gulp at such astronomical figures, high transfer fees are hardly limited to football. In fact, the highest ever made was for folks like you and me. No, you didn’t hear wrong; someone paid an astronomically high price for us.
The Bible makes it abundantly clear that we need not be “somebody” for God to notice us. He has always loved us and demonstrated it when He “did not spare even His own Son but gave Him up for us all” (Romans 8:32). For our sake, Jesus came and paid the ultimate price, dying in our place, so that we don’t need to face God’s judgment for our sins anymore.
God promises that those who believe in who Jesus is and what He did for us can now be “transferred” from a world of sin and death to God’s kingdom of love and life, where a close and lasting relationship with Him is a distinct possibility.
The price has been paid, but are you “transferred” yet?
