The weather beat down hard,
But he still kept the run.
People around called him insane,
Still, he was determined to see the end—
The end of an awesome journey.
Those closest warned him
Of the imminent suffering;
Yet his faith prevailed!
To them it was just religion,
But by God’s Word he persevered.
Joy was set upon his face,
None could snatch him from God’s grace.
For his call was not from mere man,
But from Jesus, the Christ,
The slain and risen Lamb.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the Founder and Perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” –Hebrews 12:1-2 ESV
