God’s Hand

By Sheryl Tay, Singapore

Many times in our lives, we need that little miracle to remind us of who God is. Well, I would say that God would give us more than one little miracle if it is required to assure us that His loving hands are still at work in our lives. God gave me that assurance recently.

For some time, I had been battling with whether I should visit a friend’s church (the reasons for which I will not be disclosing here). One day, I decided to make the visit. But half an hour before I was to leave the house, it began raining really heavily. Twenty minutes later, the rain had not subsided and I started entertaining thoughts about visiting the church some other time. So I prayed. I sought His will again whether I should visit that church. And I asked God if He would stop the rain.

I left my house (the rain had not stopped), walked to the bus stop, and boarded the bus. To my pleasant surprise, when I alighted from it, the heavy downpour had reduced to a light drizzle. When I reached the train station, the rain had stopped completely!

Later on, I recounted to my friend how God stopped the rain. She then told me her side of the story and I was all the more amazed at what God had done that day. Initially, she had plans to meet up with someone that evening, but the appointment was cancelled at the last minute. Right after it was cancelled, my text message came in, asking her if she could go with me to attend her church’s service (my friend hadn’t been attending church regularly). Now that her evening was available, she could go with me!

It was really awesome to experience God’s hand in arranging for us to attend the service together that day. Everything fell right into place, as if they had been pre-planned. And that occasion brought both of us back to Him, as well as to His peace and love.

Looking back, I am reminded of Jeremiah 29:11-13, “For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart’ ”(NIV).

God’s plans are 100 percent perfect, 100 percent foolproof, and100 percent spiritual satisfaction guaranteed. We can go to Him as we are and find Him wherever we are. We can bring our needs before Him, for He answers our cries. He gives us peace and assurance in times of trouble.
