Many things have happened around me lately. Most of them have been bad. But amidst all these, I am compelled to still shout, “God is good!” because His goodness never ends.
2012 was a year of ups and downs for me. In the first half of the year, everything was good. My friendships, health, and emotions were all in great condition. Then, in the second half of the year, everything fell apart. Close friends suddenly became distant, I had gastric pains frequently, and I was facing emotional issues and insecurity. I asked God, “Why Lord? Why all of a sudden? Why am I facing so many problems all at once? Can’t You at least let me go through them one at a time?”
The Lord then reminded me of a Scriptural passage that He had given me through a brother in church. He said He was going to test and refine me just like how gold is purified through the refining fire (Zechariah 13:9). And when He is finally done with me, I will come forth as a worshipper who is holy and pleasing to Him. God was using the trials to refine, purify and cleanse me from the inside out. He brought to light the hidden things in me, and He continues to carry on this process of sanctification today.
During my church’s New Year countdown service last month, the Lord instilled fresh hope in me. My problems may still be far from over, but I can know for sure that God will surprise me with His goodness and favor in the year 2013. He will lead me to grow as I walk with Him. Abundant grace shall flow in every aspect of my life because He is good (2 Peter 1:3), and His love endures forever (Psalm 136). Moreover, our present and future are in safe hands, for everything works for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). Let’s take heart in these promises!
