The Perfect Game Plan: Spiritual Formation

Day 24

Adequate preparation is half the battle won.

READ: Ephesians 6:10-17

I think we should be playing 4-4-2 instead of 4-5-1,” said the guy sitting a row ahead. “We need 2 strikers supported by a midfielder sitting just ahead of the rest.”

“You mean 4-1-2-1-2, a diamond?” replied his companion beside him. “That won’t give us much width.”

“Well, we have wingbacks, don’t we?” the man argued.

Quite obviously they were discussing football team formations and strategies, which are a component part of any successful team. Depending on the players available, a manager can use any of the 25 different types to achieve his purpose.

Satan uses many ways, which the Bible labeled as the “strategies of the devil” (Ephesians 6:11), to trap and snare the unwary in sin. The apostle Paul warns that we are not merely struggling “against flesh-and-blood” but “against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places” (v.12).

No man, however powerful, wise, or wealthy, can even begin to think of matching or defeating such formidable foes.

Knowing our predicament, God provides a way for us to protect ourselves and defeat our enemies. He tells us to “put on every piece of God’s armor” (v.13), freely available to all in Jesus Christ. Come to Him and get your set today!
