Singer-songwriter Andy Phillip: Sharing my faith through songs

Who is Andy?
Andy is a singer/songwriter who has a strong sense of humor and passion for communicating the truths of the Bible through songs. He currently serves as a singer/guitarist at his home Church.

Andy’s musical journey began in his bedroom where he would write songs and sing them to God. Some time later, he was given the privilege to share his songs publicly and received positive encouragements. Since then, Andy has been actively sharing his songs and the stories behind them through leading as well as other platforms. Besides penning musical worship songs, Andy has also written songs based on life accounts which he experienced or witnessed. These songs allow him to share his faith and stories to a wider audience.

On 5 April 2013, Andy released his first studio produced single, “Author of Life”.

Why did he write this song?
This song was inspired by Hebrews 12:1-2, where it talks about Jesus being the author and finisher of our faith. He had this image of us (the body of Christ) being books which Jesus had written, each filled with stories of how God has been so real and involved in our lives. God has erased our past and is penning every single day of our future, He calls us to be unashamed of what He’s done in our lives. And so, we boldly share the stories of redemption, healing and liberation, leaving the pages of our lives open for anyone to read about our God. That’s the message of this song.

Inspiration behind another song “Pictures of Your Love”

You probably have heard the saying that a picture speaks a thousand words. A picture may remind you of the classmates you grew up with, the farm you visited a year ago or perhaps the first time you had a pyjama party. The possibilities are endless. Now ask yourself, how would a picture that reminds you of God’s love look like? Would it be an object, an event, a place or a person?

Love is not something God extends to us solely because of His generosity. Love is who He is. (1 John 4:8) He is the perfect love who covers a multitude of sins and casts out all fear. Love consumes us, better yet, it transforms us.

Having experienced all of these, it is natural for us to be filled with joy and excitement, wanting to share this love with the people around us. It is a lovely thing to be used by God to love the people around us. Though we do not love perfectly, it doesn’t stop us from loving. Who knows, the next picture that reminds someone of God’s love could be a picture of you. Love never fails.
